Shortness Of Breath/increased Heart Rate
A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have HL & I’ve had 3 cycles of chemo so far. I’m constantly just out of breath, even if I’m just sitting & my heart rate is always really night. My dr has cut out the bleomycin due to the side effects of possible lung toxicity. She did state that it could take months for breathing to get back to normal after removing the med. I’ve had another pft & echo to make sure everything was ok. The dr said there is a small 4mm nodule on the right ventricle of my heart but everything is functioning and… read more

While I was getting my last dose of chemotherapy in preparation for my CAR T CELL treatment, they overloaded me with fluids because the chemotherapy is very toxic to the kidneys. As a result the fluid backed up in my lungs and caused my heart rate to go up. It also caused pain in my chest when I tried to take a deep breathe. With two or thee days of a heavy duty diuretics, they removed 10lbs. Of fluid. It sounds like your doctor is on top of things by having you seen by a cardiologist and pulmonologist. These are the kinds of problems we run into when we are in treatment. I pray that everything will clear up in time for you. Take care, don’t worry it is all part of the process, my doctor said, “don’t be alarmed, we have seen this happen before and know how to take care of it.” It is hard when it hurts to take a breathe and you have never had that happen before.

I had a similar experience with chemo and overdoses of fluids. Very out of breath and feet swelled up like balloons. Diuretics solved the issue. Recently had to have blood transfusions and doctor ordered diuretic between units. No problems.
