I just don't see how 5 straight days in the hospital, where it is noisy and the food is awful, is going to help him keep the weight he has (6 foot 6 and 180 lbs).
Yes I did 3 rounds of it, they have to make sure it is all out of your system that stuff is STRONG and if he all of a sudden had a reaction to it "kidney failure, liver failure, etc.." best to be at the hospital then 20min away , 20min could be the difference between life and death for real.
I had 6 outpatient infusions of R-EPOCH, not too many problems, life long runner, was in excellent shape before. Two trips to ER in the first 3 weeks to relief constipation, but smooth sailing after. Read studies that before starting treatment and one from Brisbane, OZ also was doing outpatient with good results (> 2/3 CRs).
Thank you Pat! We are in the process of the second opinion as of just yesterday and I am researching as best I can. Appreciate your taking the time bcuz I have not looked at the resources area of this site yet. Bless you and take care!
Thank you so much! They offer lots of outpatient chemo - the place where he would be getting it is outpatient. The hospital bed would be after... and a lot more cost sharing for us presumably. We are asking questions on the 'why' of inpatient and hope to get answers. Just too gobsmacked to do it in that first appt with the doctor. I didn't know inpatient chemo was a thing, esp for an otherwise healthy pearson who has a caregiver able to take leave from work.
