I'd Like To Know Your Experience On Your Drug Regimen For SLL
A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

My name is Laura. I have SLL and was diagnosed about 1 year ago. I am currently on active surveillance but my oncologists have noted they think (based on my current lab/film findings and symptoms) that I will need to start drug treatment in the next 3-6 months.

That said, I would love to hear from others about:
1. What drug treatment you choose for your SLL and why
2. How did you do (or currently are doing) on the treatment
3. What kind of side effects you have encountered

I am a nurse of 40… read more

Exactly one year after my on watch Regime I had these two large lumps on my neck. After my pet scan and blood work it was time for the drugs. It was quite aggressive which made me feel Good due to the fact that my doctor stated if it's slow they can put it in remission if it's fast it can be eradicated. So I had to have the six procedures period. He put me in the hospital for the first one. Thank goodness I had a bad reaction. I don't remember which drug it was but they handled it period. It wasn't too bad with the 1st Four Treatments however the fifth one knock me down. Getting ready for my sixth and final 1on the ninth. It's kind of a bitter sweet reaction. Sweet part is it's my last one I ring the bell. Bitter is as explained each treatment gets worse because it's accumulative. I don't quite know how it can get much worse. Meaning you just get weaker with a treatment. It's like your legs are to weak to hold you up. can't feel your fingers or your toes. Forget the bathroom. You think you're in labor. Then whenever thing clears up and you're feeling somewhat normal it's time for another treatment. I forgot to mention after the first treatment the lumps on my neck we're gone. After my third treatment and pet scan everything was clear. We just have to pray for each other. There is joy in the journey. I have a great support team. Awesome doctor. Nurses at the treatment center go above and beyond. I ask questions because if I know what to expect I can accept it ❤️

It will be one year on thanksgiving since I had my first treatment. One year march ninth since my last treatment. My strength has been building. There are bad days when you just can't get out of bed. Or your balances off. Next pet scan is november second. I'm not so worried about that. My heart echo is on the twenty fifth of this month. That one has me a little concerned. Isn't it funny that before all this I was the healthiest healthier than my doctor. We can survive the cancer. It's the chemo that's the killer. You know how jerry lewis Had his telethon On m d. Why then can't we have them on cancer. Just asking. Stay positive this too shall Pass I promise you.

I don't know how to find the page to add you to my team so maybe you can add me to yours then I will get a notice and add you back.

Sounds like we have similar symptoms but mine was called stage 2 and watch and wait come back in 6 months.
Recently this group sent out an article called Non Hodgkin Lymphoma Treatment: What you need to Know. on the email I found it extremely helpful in outlining the treatments. Nothing about how they decide you need to start treating tho.

Are you a farmer? Seems the classic profile is white, male, farmer, who eats lunch meat!!!??? My Mom age 94 was recewntly diagnosed with the same SLL?CLL as I was diagnosed with. Doc said this type is not genetic but more likely to be precipitated by pesticide exposure!??

Hi Laura, I also was recently diagnosed with SLL and will have CT scans next week to see if any nodes in my chest/abdomen are enlarged. I have enlarged nodes in one armpit and in my groin, so I am already considered stage 3. I have no B symptoms and feel fine. My oncologist said SSL is often treated with oral medications, but I want to hear what others have experienced. If you have SSL, please add me to your team as I will do the same.

Thank you Becky. My platelets have been dropping over time, and my lymphocytes have been going up, as well. Also, lymph nodes on my second CT scan have slightly increased in size. This is seen as disease progression and when it meets certain criteria, it's time to move forward with drug treatment. I expect that in the next few months if things continue this way, it will be time to start drug treatment. For now, I wish to educate myself as much as possible. Thank you for your comments and information. All the best to you. - Laura
