Is it dangerous?
Do i need treatment?
How to regain?
Oh my - we do lbs here. Is 1.5K = 3.5 lbs?
I believe that weight loss can be a common effect of CAs - lymphomas included. But to be honest, there are so many factors that affect weight - meds, exercise, are you eating less or maybe your diet has changed (when I don't feel good - I tend to eat lots more carbs). I lost 50+ lbs in under 6 months - but other than a major Whipple sx that removed the Lymphona caused obstruction and many other bits and GI parts along with some of my pancreas, I have not done an "CA treatments". Eventually they figured out removing those parts caused pancreatic insufficiency (or maybe that was a problem for a long time - who knows?). They ordered pancreatic enzymes to be taken every time I eat so my body can process food correctly. I have gained back about 15 lbs - in part due to less desirable food choices that are easier on my very touchy GI systems and because fatigue and other issues mean that exercise has virtually stopped in the last 3 months. Mind you I started this journey in the extra "fluffy" category so my oncologist was actually pleased when I gained those lbs back - she said I looked better. Yet when I told her my BMI is back in the obese range, she just said I looked better again. Balance, pros and cons....LOL
If you started light and/or aren't feeling so good, you may need to supplement. For me, that meant some labs to determine deficiencies. A big one was adding protein to heal and smoothies to get general good nutrition. Learned that protein powders - regular or vegan don't agree with me. But adding chia to my oatmeal and smoothies works well. Please check with your Dr/nutritionist and others here online about what may work best for you. Everyone's body and situation is unique. (A couple of my Drs kept pushing Ensure shakes - which I hated 100% - taste/texture and most critical - they made my GI unhappy). Good Luck!
