Auto Immune Disorders
A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I was on methotrexate for several years before my lymphoma diagnosis. I was doing well. Now three years out my symptoms have come back. They don’t want me on the methotrexate as it may have caused the lymphoma. Anyone else dealing with auto immune issues?

I was told by a few Drs. that having autoimmune diseases can contribute and also cause cancer. I do believe this too. Some drugs can be just as damaging.I think the facts, are when you have an autoimmune disease you blame every crazy health problem on it. I might have known I had cancer sooner if I had not done that.

AndreaR,
Hi! After my treatments I now have PMR. I had to be on steroids for a yr. Also I was just told I have secondary immune system deficiency from the chemo. I've been in remission for 2 1/2 yrs. It should be stronger than it is per my immunology Dr. I'm blessed to be in remission but I don't think any of us get out of this without side effects unfortunately. Kelly

I get a monthly immune system boost at my oncology clinic and have been getting this treatment for about six years now. It's no big deal really. On the plus side I've only had one head cold in the years I've been taking the treatment. So it obviously does the job. 😊

Yes, I also have an autoimmune disease β€” Sojourns Disease and Fibromyalgia. Both research and the doctors indicated that a large percentage of people with an autoimmune issue have Lymphoma; however, the probability of being exposed to an insecticide or Benzine is more likely to be the basic contributor. They cite what they think might be contributing factors: genetics (Siblings appear to develop it. My sister developed CLL and lived many, many years with it without treatment); Lifestyle (Smoking and Secondary Smoke, for example); Environmental (People who live in rural areas or near industrial areas); and Obesity ( People with a BMI greater than 34). They all admit, though, that basically they don’t really know the cause.
