LesleyNee,
Hi! I have/had DLBCL stage IV and had RCHOP chemo. I've been in remission for 4 years 4mos. But who's counting? My oncologist from the Cleveland Clinic said if I get to 5 yrs she can say I'm cured. She said if I make it to 5 yrs that I have as much chance of getting DLBCL as anyone else in the US. Congratulations on your 6 yr remission. That's wonderful!! Kelly

Yes, your oncologist is correct! Research shows that the risk of DLBCL relapse is highest within the first two years after completing treatment. After that, the chances of relapse decrease significantly over time.

Looking at the numbers: only about 9.3% of people relapse after five years, and 10.3% after eight years. This Show Full Answer

This means that if you've made it to 6 years without a relapse, you're in a very good position. It's worth celebrating that you've reached this milestone! While it's still important to attend your follow-up appointments and stay aware of any potential symptoms, you can take comfort in knowing that late relapses (those occurring after the two-year mark) are much less common than early relapses.
