Members rallied around a frustrated community member asking whether to find a new hemo-oncologist after repeatedly being left waiting for test results and feeling dismissed. Several members strongly encouraged signing up for patient portals like MyChart or MyQuest, which allow members to view lab results quickly and prepare questions before appointments, with many sharing that this tool has been a game-changer for staying informed. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, with members urging one another to speak up, follow up persistently, and never settle for a care team that doesn't communicate clearly.

I’m so sorry this has been your experience. I go to Mayo (6 hour drive) and they schedule my labs and scans in the AM and I meet with the oncologist that afternoon for results. Sometimes they schedule for the following day but I generally only have to stay the one night. I’m lucky in that I get it all taken care of and results in minimal time. I also have a patient portal where I can see m results even before the appointment. Are you going to a Cancer clinic? Seems like everyone has a patient portal or mychart these days. I can totally understand your frustration. I would feel the same way.

I am sorry you are having trouble getting results and follow-up.

I had my UHN and other online services mychartcetc.

I must say you and or a close loved one must be your own advocate to chase up people test results. Followup appointments and test/scans/bloodwork. Never give up doing this. It is your life. Be active at this and kill people with kindbess. It works.

You must feel confident with your oncologist! Do not accept anything but the best treatment. It is their job!!🙏🏻

Depending upon where you have your blood draw, they will often place the results on MyChart or can can request that they send the results to you or place it on a web site and give you access.

Watch out for the cost of the blood draws. I had my blood drawn where my oncologist worked and it cost me a lot of money. So, I went to Labcorb and it cost a heck of a lot less.

Take care and God Bless,
Dave

I agree if you can get My Chart you can have questions ready. My chart often tells you more than the Dr.
