I went to oncology and he gave me copy of biopsy. Does anybody know what it means when it says mature low grade B-cell lymphoma with CD5 co-expression , most consistent with small lymphocytic lymphoma/chronic lymphocytic leukemia
Nasera,
I love when people share their knowledge and provide links to additional information. You are part of the reason this is such a wonderful group. Thanks.

Hi Wanda,
Hopefully your oncologist will explain the specifics of your test results when you meet. I worked in Cytopathology, so I can help you out some, if that's OK. Mature B-cell lymphoma is what was seen under the microscope and CD5 is the additional result to further classify the type of lymphoma.
CD markers can help the oncologist on how to proceed with treatment for that particular type of lymphoma. CD markers are identified through two methods, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The pathology report usually identifies the microscopic diagnosis and then further tests are ordered on the biopsy (such as the ones mentioned).
When a biopsy is taken, it is examined under the microscope. This means the pathologist can see if specific types of cells are behaving normally or disrupting the normal architecture. The microscopic examination can identify the cells belonging to the two main groups of lymphomas,(Hodgkins Lymphoma and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma). Some of the biopsy is also used for CD markers to identify the more specific types in each group. CD expression means the biopsy tissue is positive for that particular marker (in your case, CD5).

All the Best, Nasera
You need to ask your oncologist to explain the biopsy results to you.
Nasera,
I just tried the link again. Maybe the problem is on my end - my history/cache is corrupted (I will clear that out and then shutdown later) or it could be a browser thing - as I work on a laptop not my phone. Just wanted to share so people can get to the information if they run into the same problem I did. No worries. (IMHO, it was a good article).
Actually I did but did not have the document in my hand at the time. I will see him again after the tests and will ask for in-depth answers.
