I have just learned I have double hit non Hodgkin's lymphoma and the doctors are reluctant to change my treatment options because I am over 70. But, I am an otherwise active, lively person and I may want to seek a 2nd opinion.
That's fantastic news. Thanks for sharing and congratulations. I have my 3rd round on March 6 and will have the PET scan after that. I will keep you posted!
How are you doing Jody? My husband finished his 3rd round of chemo & had a PET scan a week later. We got the results yesterday & the cancer is gone. They still want him to do the other 3 rounds of chemo though. We are so thankful.
Yes I lost a lot of weight before I knew I had lymphoma and I kept getting infections. Good that he's doing better. I live in Toronto, in Canada.
Jody, we don't have any family nearby so I have no one to help. It's just me. He is coping better this round then he starts chemo again February 5th. We have a friend who had double hit lymphoma & has now been cancer free for 11 years. She did the R-Chop chemo for hers because I don't think R-Epoch was available then. She was in her early 50's when diagnosed & hers was stage 1 & hadn't spread as much as my husband's. My husband is 65. I don't know where you live or where you're being treated but take the advice of your doctors about the type of treatment. My husband was in great shape before he got sick. He was working a part time job & was very active. He first went to the doctor because he had a lump under his arm. The physician assistant told him it was a lipoma & never mentioned cancer. Almost two months later after a couple more trips to the doctor for little issues, he was hurting so bad we went to the ER. They did a CT scan & told him it looked like he had lymphoma. His doctors physician assistant could of cost him his life because of that misdiagnosis & I'm furious about it. Because of that the cancer had almost three months to spread before his first chemo treatment & during that time he lost 40 pounds.
Double hit lymphoma is indeed very aggressive. I have tumours all over as well, various sizes. The R-epoch is more toxic but also more effective, if he is coping better that is a good sign. You need social support, whether from friends or relatives or nurses or anywhere you can find it, and you deserve it.
