Core Needle Biopsy Results Came Back As Inconclusive. My Spleen Will Be Removed And Sent To Pathology Lab To Do Further Tests.
A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone been through this before? I’ve heard even testing the spleen cells can be inconclusive. What gives in this situation?

Gene I had my spleen surgery consult this week. Scheduled for removal April 19. Dr. says it is massive and can’t do laparoscopic surgery. Says will make incision, tie off veins then take the whole thing out with his hand. I was hoping for sooner.

Hello Gene - Good luck with your surgery. I have a consult with surgeon 19th to schedule spleen removal. My spleen has been described as massive, pressing against stomach and lung.

Jackson,
All the doc said was my spleen was 17 mm. I guess they mean in diameter? They said it weighed 2 pounds. Anyway, it was enlarged and causing me discomfort.
Surgery ended up being almost 4 hours because they couldn’t pull it through the laparoscopic holes. The spleen was cut in pieces and pulled out through another 2 inch incision. It was pretty crowded inside there with all the other organs.
Yes I had 3 vaccines a few weeks before my surgery too.
Hope all goes well for you!

Thank you Gene for the updates. How long did your surgery take? My spleen is massive, Dr. says, will have to come out in one piece. Did they tell you how big yours was? He said mine is in excess of 11 inches. Having a hard time breathing. I am scheduled to have 4 vaccinations and then boosters to help take care of what the spleen usually does. So happy you are doing well.
