Members offered warm reassurance to someone anxious about getting a port, with the overwhelming consensus being that while the idea feels scary at first, the port is far better than repeated needle sticks and collapsed veins. Several members shared that placement is relatively painless, healing takes only five to seven days, using lidocaine cream beforehand helps with comfort, and many forget the port is even there after a few weeks. A recurring theme was gratitude for the port's convenience during treatment, the choice to keep it in place even after remission in case of recurrence, and the reminder that this small step makes a difficult journey much more manageable.

Ronda, the port is a life vein savor. I am on my second one and it feels ok. 5 to 7 days to heal is the worst time and that is very minimal of stress at the sight. I have lidocaine to put on 30 min. Before they place the needle in and that does help a little. You know what they say no venture no gain . God is with us and he works with all.

Hang in there - you will get use to the port. You have to have it flushed every three months. Not a big deal - maybe because I am use to the shots.

I have had Lymphoma for 11 years and still kicking.

God has you my friend!

Hi , Rich LaManna here
I also have a port no biggie. It's better then collapsing your veins.
It's been in 3 years sometimes I forget it's there
I go for a pet scan in December if I am still in remission it might be taken out.
But, like you said if my FORLICULA LYMPHOMA comes back they would need to put it back in so, I am in no big hurry.
I do go every 3 months for a port flushed to keep it clean.
So, listen to your doctor advice about having it removed to early

Good luck
