Why hasn't neuropathy resolved after follicular lymphoma remission?

Neuropathy can persist even after lymphoma goes into remission for several reasons. While treating the underlying cancer can sometimes help paraneoplastic syndromes improve, the nerve damage that's already occurred may not fully reverse.

Chemotherapy itself can cause peripheral neuropathy as a side effect. Drugs commonly used in lymphoma treatment, like vincristine and brentuximab vedotin, are known to damage nerves in 30-40% of people who undergo treatment.

Sometimes neuropathy symptoms gradually improve or resolve after treatment ends, but in other cases, the nerve damage lingers long-term. The combination of paraneoplastic effects and chemotherapy-induced nerve damage may be contributing to your ongoing symptoms.

It's important to discuss your persistent neuropathy with your healthcare team. They can help determine whether it's related to the paraneoplastic syndrome, chemotherapy side effects, or both, and recommend appropriate management strategies like medications, physical therapy, or other supportive treatments.
