A backache during a Truxima (rituximab) infusion can be a sign of an infusion-related reaction. While this is understandably alarming, it is not automatically life-threatening — but it does need to be taken seriously and reported to your care team right away.

Infusion reactions can range from mild to more serious. Symptoms to watch for include:

- Back or abdominal pain
- Fever and chills
- Itchy rash
- Swollen lips, throat, or face
- Trouble breathing
- Low blood pressure Most mild to moderate reactions can be managed by slowing or pausing the infusion and giving medications to calm the immune response. Your care team is trained to handle these reactions quickly.

The most important thing is to tell your nurse or doctor immediately if you feel any discomfort during an infusion — even if it seems minor. Never tough it out in silence! They can adjust the infusion rate or treat the reaction before it becomes more serious.
