Got a bone density scan to get the "all clear" to proceed with a rotator cuff repair surgery. That was wishful thinking. The scan showed severe osteoporosis. My Drs did not blink - just ordered medication to treat osteoporosis. My dear RN friend questioned why I have this dx at the age of 60. She said that does not seem right - you should ask for further testing. My rheumatologist ordered me to take Calcium and vitamin D supplements twice a day and after almost 2 months finally got… read more
Has anyone felt like they miss their oncology visits and/or infusions? Sounds weird to me, but I find that I do to some extent. Is it the comfort of knowing they’re there for me? Knowing someone is watching over me? A separation anxiety? Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful that the treatments have done what they’re supposed to do and I don’t have to worry about it getting worse. But how what do I say to my loved ones? How do I explain it? Do I need to find someone to talk to?
Thank you.
My oncologist never asked what symptoms I am having his visits are 15 min ! And I try to ask question as I have RUNX1 familial rare platelet disorder related to multiple malignancies and have yet to be tested or treated and already having pulmonary embolism you would think ? The lab test and tx is under Pubmed ! It is discouraging and I am not going to be told to go to Mayo, Moffitts, UFShands the worse specialist that assume a patient is alcoholic rather than read the medical notes it is NAFLD… read more
Hi Cathy - I highly recommend your making an appointment with a different oncology group. No need to share your experience you've had with the group with which you are currently a patient. Have access… read more
Thank you I appreciate that.💗
I went for my yearly oncology appointment for breast cancer I had 21 years ago when my oncologist felt a lump where I had reconstruction surgery. I thought it was scar tissue and she had me do an ultrasound followed by a biopsy where lymphoma was discovered in my axillary lymph node and not the lump she initially felt.
I was going to the ear doctor and he found what I thought was a lipoma on my clavicle but he said lymphoma. I went for a pin biopsy and then a core biopsy to confirm FL.
I have a infusion next week and that is on my list of questions
Hi friends, I recently had a bone marrow biopsy that showed that 37% of my bone marrow is being affected by the marginal zone lymphoma. My doctor has recommended 4 weekly treatments of Rituximab. I am curious to know from any of you who have had treatments with this what your experience has been and what I should expect. My understanding is that some people have allergic reactions to the treatment and that it also affects your immune system, but other than that I don’t know much. Thanks in… read more
Yes, it has kept my numbers under 300 for 4 years plus

Cathy, it stands for Marginal Zone Lymphoma.
I was just diagnosed a week ago and don't meet with my doctor to discuss next steps until after the new year. He mentioned possibly doing "watch and wait" method and I've read a lot that backs that up, which really surprises me. Why would you wait until things got worse to pursue any type of treatment?
For some types of blood cancer there's no evidence that early treatment, when you have no symptoms, improves outcomes. Instead, doctors recommend saving treatment for later, when it will have the best… read more
