Rituxin Infusions
A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have recently diagnosed with Slow Growing and B Cell Lymphoma. I am scheduled for Rituxin Infusions soon. I am concerned about what Side effects to expect for example nausea and/other side effects.

Hi Laura, my daughter is getting RCHOP for primary mediastinal B cell lymphoma. She had her 4th round two days ago. First round the rituximab is given in a slow infusion to see if she tolerates it. She did other than a scratchy throat during infusion and really no other side effects when she got home. We were amazed and happy. The second and third rounds they did the rituximab as an injection in the abdomen. Both times on day 3 or 4 she has pain at injection site. Its not nausea or vomiting, she describes it as almost a muscular type pain. After switching sides to the other side of her abdomen and the same pain coming on she decided to go back to the long infusions. We are hoping that side/abdominal pain will not come back since she opted out of the injection. On day 5 or 6 she got a low grade fever with no other symptoms. Other than that she is tired at times but we have been so relieved with how well she is tolerating it.

I just finished Rituxin with 4 infusions and had no reactions whatever. The only problem I had was to the Benadryl they gave me before the infusions in case I did have a reaction. They gave it to me two times and I didn’t sleep a wink the two nights I took it. Goodluck.

Also I forgot to mention she gets a late rash at injection site. :(. We are not fans of the injections at least for her. Im sure everyone responds differently.

I am doing the infusions, 4 down and 4 more to go. The only reactions I have had is the soreness at the site of injection and the tiredness. I usually sleep most of the day after the infection. The fatigue just doesn’t go away. I also have had a bit of nausea but not too bad. Good luck!
