How Do You Handle Loosing Faith In Your Treating Oncologist/assistant?
A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

My check up yesterday, I knew would be with assistant, I met 1 time prior and tried not to make judgment. Yesterday I asked pointed questions! I couldn't get an answer!!!! Agh! I asked "what is the name of my leukemia?" She's scanning my chart online... ummm I don't know, it doesn't say. Wow I say. The initial blood work said CD5 small B cell leukemia. She then says "yeah, yeah it says that". Then I asked "Is that the name then?" She said "Um I don't know" I said OK then what's the name of… read more

Wow that person you were talking to should not have that job . Go in get your records from them and get an appointment with another oncologist

It sounds very odd and unprofessional to have such an experience. First of all, every question would be in your records. You should receive records in an App with the hospital and your doctor or at every visit. I can’t tell from your description but that would not happen at a medical facility with experienced oncologists and information about research, clinical trials and all information for patients. Hospitals all have patient support departments where you can contact to address your concerns. I am only guessing, but telling this assistant that you are part of a class action lawsuit could explain her conduct as that complicates your diagnosis unless they knew you had exposure to the chemical when first seen.

I would read all your oncologists notes for every visit.

Glad to hear you found another team for July.

And the questions you asked can be a mouse click away. This is your body, your illness and you deserve to educate yourself about your life.

I agree with dagmar2. Ask for a new team. Explain why. You have rights. The last several times I had a problem, and I mean a real problem, with a doctor I fired them. They work for you you don't work for them.

Gena, I am so sorry that happened to you! How awful 😣. Ask for a different team and explain why. Hopefully all is better for you now. I believe it’s really important to have a good rapport with your Oncologist. 🍀
