Unfortunately, after the first remission, relapses tend to become more frequent and remission periods often get shorter. For example, while a first remission might last 5 years, subsequent remissions may only last 2-3 years. The good news is that survival rates have improved significantly over the years. Recent studies show:
• 92% survival rate at 5 years
• 80% survival rate at 10 years
• 65% survival rate at 15 years
This is a major improvement from previous decades when the 10-year survival rate was around 50%.
