What are the side effects of rituximab?

Rituximab can cause allergic reactions in some people. These reactions may include:

* An itchy rash
* Swollen lips, throat, or face
* Trouble breathing
* Fever and chills

These symptoms can occur during or shortly after the infusion. If you experience any sudden or severe reactions, contact your health care team immediately.

When rituximab is used as part of R-CHOP therapy, other common side effects may include:

* Swollen limbs
* Digestive problems like inflammation, constipation, diarrhea, or abdominal pain
* Problems urinating or urinating frequently
* Hair loss
* Numbness, tingling, or pain in your limbs
* Weight changes

Rituximab can also decrease your blood cell counts, leading to:

* Low white blood cells (increasing infection risk with symptoms like fever, aches, and headaches)
* Anemia (causing fatigue and breathlessness)
* Low platelets (causing easy bruising or bleeding)

Even common side effects can be uncomfortable. Let your health care team know what you're experiencing so they can help manage these symptoms or adjust your treatment if needed.
