About one-third of people who achieve complete response after first-line R-CHOP treatment will relapse within two years. Of those who do relapse, approximately 44 percent respond to second-line treatment and achieve a second remission.
The timing of relapse matters significantly:
* Early relapses (within two years) are more common
* Late relapses (after two years) occur less frequently
* After staying in remission for two years, relapse rates drop to about 6.9 percent at three years, 9.3 percent at five years, and 10.3 percent at eight years
