Leukemia in this context means the lymphoma cells are circulating in the bloodstream. Leuk = leukocyte or white blood cell; emia = circulating in blood. It is not the same as “acute leukemia” (AML or ALL), which are aggressive cancers of white blood cells in the blood. To be even more confusing, the “leukemic” type of MCL can be hard to distinguish from CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia), which is indolent and can remain stable for years… decades. So don’t let the “leukemia” term in this context alarm you.
