We focus on physical health issues because we have to. But what about spiritual health? I define spiritual health as my relationship with my Higher Power, call it what you will. With prayer as a given what else do YOU do to safeguard your spiritual health? Read scriptures? Meditate? What? Share it here 😀

Members shared meaningful ways they protect their spiritual health while facing serious illness, with prayer, gratitude, and connection to a Higher Power being central themes throughout the thread. Several members described daily practices like reading scripture, attending Mass, starting mornings with devotionals, and watching 'The Chosen' during late-night hospital stays as sources of comfort and strength. A recurring theme was that living out one's faith through kindness, supporting others, and sharing love gives life deep meaning, even in the face of suffering.

I grew up with parents who had their challenges and they took us to church some, but especially my Mom (rest her soul) taught me about the importance of my relationship with a higher power (in our belief - God/Jesus/Holy Spirit). Over the past years and before my diagnosis, I have always started my day with a devotional and scripture. The Lord always seems to know what is relevant for that day and there is always a message if I listen. I’m so thankful that I don’t walk this earth without the Word to guide my steps and light my path. Prayers for everyone in their individual journeys. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

I refollowed episodes of the “Chosen” especially in the 2am hour in the hospital room during chemo. Since I continue to thank God for daily miracles and for prayers friends and family offered for me during my treatment. Adding my prayers for those in treatment is my way to repay their love for me during the past 2 years.

I do the things I need to do to keep my connection with God, for I trust Him and His plan for me: Conversations with Him, reading scriptures, going to church to worship, etc. But I know that what is expected of me even more is to live the gospel: love everyone, feed the hungry, take care of the poor, lift the weak, always be kind, etc. Doing this helps my faith and hope that whatever comes my way will be for my benefit one way or another. I know I won’t have to walk this road alone.

I pray and am thankful for each day. I make a conscious effort to be positive and support others with this affliction. I am heartbroken to hear about children with cancer-so unfair. I am striving to live my best life

Interesting query. In my view one's spiritual health is measured by the fixity and clarity of one's spiritual conenction with the Creator, and consequently with all creation, with life, with existence itself.

The deeper the mystical connection with all life through the Creator, the deeper will be the love that flows through one to life from the Creator.

When we realize that all existence is united, bound together by love, then we conclude, indeed we know that our reason for being on this earth is to share that love with as much breadth and depth as we can muster.

The constant receipt of affection from the Creator and its bestowal upon all our fellow creatures gives meaning and purpose to our lives, even in the face of suffering and death. All creatures suffer; all will die, yet our gift of love may ease that suffering, lessen the fear of death. Our gift of love will be refreshed by each recipient, passed on, magnified, and in that way it becomes immortal as it provides forward going benificence across this planet, maybe even the universe.

Spiritual health is demonstrated by seeking and transfering love with every waking moment, even in the face of adversity, knowing full well it gives meaning to our lives and succour to those suffering or fearful. It truly keeps on giving.

As Dostoyevsky wrote:

"Love all God’s creation, the whole and every grain of sand in it. Love every leaf, every ray of God’s light. Love the animals, love the plants, love everything.”
