I'm a bit nervous after my CT showed enlargement of a couple of abdominal lymph nodes. My Oncologist says it's time to treat the SLL but first he wants a PET scan of my abdomen, so they can do a lymph node removal and biopsy. Now I'm worried about Richter's. My Dr. did say that my labs are stable and I have no other symptoms, so there's that.
My PET scan ended up showing no unusual activity in these nodes, therefore, surgery to biopsy one isn't needed. I'm back on watch and wait.
My oncologist says that there's no point in removing swollen lymph nodes. They are caused by overproduction of lymph cells and the nodes are simply unable to filter them all out. He said if we remove that node others will just clog up instead and there's no point as long as the swelling isn't impinging on some escential organ or duct.
He also says if my labs are ok there's no reason to start treatment.
I try to have as large a gap as I csn finagle between PET scans. Pretty high radiation and radioactive material ingestion. Gotta be bad for us!!

It's completely normal to feel nervous about upcoming scans and biopsies. The fact that your labs are stable and you're not experiencing other symptoms are positive signs. PET scans are a standard and valuable tool that doctors use to:

Richard Ladd … That is really good news! I have FL, Stage 3, just had scans this week that showed growth in my mesenteric and was consistent with progression of abdominal lymphoma … but because my labs and all other areas and no symptoms, my doctor said I could do 6 more months Watch & Wait. We’ll listen to our bodies and if we notice anything new or troubling, they are just a phone call away. God Bless ! 🙏
Yes. I was diagnosed with SLL Nov. 2022. Not on any Rx's, nor treatments... until 2 short months ago. I had PET Scan, result encouraged my Oncologist to start me on an RX, Calquence. No negative side effects other than worsening fatigue & trouble walking.
